2025-26 Season

gary wright17 Sep 2025 - 21:32

Thoughts from some of our captains and committee members on the season to come.

The 2025-26 season officially got under way with the Fidra Club Day in North Berwick on 30 August, where we got a few words from new club Chairman Andrew Forrest:

"It is good to see the youngsters developing and progressing through the club as several of the juniors are now playing senior hockey. Off the pitch we have a new kit supplier so if you are looking for kit get your order in quick! There will also be several social events happening so please keep an eye on the group chats for more details.

After the men's 1st XI won East Division 1 last season, I hope they can have another good season this time around under captains Scott and Dougie. The development team under Ross can help give our youngsters a chance grow and progress through the club. The ladies had a good start last year for their first season back since being re-established and we would like to think they can build on that again this season. Good luck to all teams for the season ahead!"

Following the Club Day, the men's 1s started with a 4-1 away win versus rivals Esk Vale. See the photos page on the website for more!

The men's Development team start their season on Saturday 20th Sept, playing away to Inverleith. Looking ahead, captain Ross Macnab said, "The Development squad provides a great starting point with the club and opportunities to progress depending on ambition. We aim to provide fun participation and a platform to improve. This season, we are in a perfect division, matched with teams at our level. We've got a nice blend of youth and experience, and I count myself in the experienced category! I'm excited to get back out there.”

The ladies and U16 girls have a lot of cross over with players so have a busy season ahead. They have one pre-season game left on Sat 20th Sept against Preston Lodge and then the U16s play their first game on Sun 21st against Edinburgh Hockey Club. The ladies start a week later, Sat 27th, against Falkirk & Linlithgow Hockey Club.

Co-captains for the ladies and the U16’s, Ellie Cunningham & Effie Dunlop, said “We are all excited and ready for the new season ahead. We have got a strong team this year and are all motivated and determined to win as a many games as we can - one of our biggest strengths is teamwork so we hope to continue to build on this through the season”

The Junior section have seen some changes with a new East Lothian league starting on a Saturday mornings, with teams entered in with the first games for the U12s on 20th Sept - which is looking to be a busy day for the club. The new East Lothian development squads are also entering teams in the East leagues on Sundays, which gives our players another chance to play.

There are also monthly festivals for U10s...so we have junior games playing just about every week. Time for some words from Fidra Head Coach, Gary Wright: “I just like seeing the kids get a chance to play and see how they improve over time.”

Fidra are very keen to welcome new members and it would be great to hear from anyone who wants to either give hockey a try or get back to playing.
