The club secured funding from the National Lottery Awards 4 All earlier in the year with a focus on coach development and education and over the summer Fidra took a significant steps forward by running an "Introduction to Coaching" course for fifteen of our players to help improve our coaching offering. This investment has already a great success and has strengthened our coaching team, with several members from our men's and ladies' squads now regularly assisting with junior training on Tuesday evenings in North Berwick.
As the only men's hockey club in East Lothian, we are committed to growing the game. Our efforts are already yielding results:
· A new boys' session is running at North Berwick High School, led by two former Fidra players.
· We are launching a second session at Ross High School, with plans for a third school in the coming weeks.
· We have successfully restarted our after-school club at Law Primary, run by members of our ladies' squad every Monday for two age groups (P1-P3 and P4-P7).
Over time we hope to see some of these players in our men’s teams playing on a Saturday.
Furthermore, with the new East Lothian Hockey Development Officer in place, our coaches are now also contributing to regional development squads, extending Fidra's positive impact throughout the county.
We are also have some other coaching opportunities and sessions that we are looking to start up. The next big step will be a back to hockey session for the ladies which we hope will encourage more ladies in to the club and strengthen the ladies section.
