Weather Report from Haddington
Saturdays weather brought clear blue skies and a slight wind producing a chill for those Fidra players surprised by Scotland's weather. However with a balmy 13 degrees forecast it was a lovely Day for hockey.
Match Report
Fidra welcomed Inverleith to Haddington after several venue changes.
The games started and for the first 10 mins possession was shared. Then Fidra found another gear and started to push forward more and more. The pressure told as Fidra opened the scoring through Martin from a well struck penalty corner. Not long after Fidra added a seconf through the young and highly promising Rowan Daff.
Inverleith did have some attacking opportunities but some great defending by (newly returned from Grange HC) Tom Riddell and some great backing up by Scott Ling as Matty was trying to figure out how to kick the ball in goal and just didn't!!! Hopefully thats out of his system now.
The half finished 2-0 and the team-talk was positive and plenty of back patting.
With the customary swap of ends completed the second half got under way. Fidra picked up from, where they left off with plenty of team pressing and forcing turnovers. The great teamwork continued for Fidra and this produced the goal of the game. Under pressure near our own goal. Tom Riddell produced a well timed tackle, fed a quick ball into martin in the centre of the park. Martin spotted Nick free and slid a lovely pass to him. Nick controlled looked up and slotted a lovely ball towards the opposition penalty spot which found and amazingly timed run from right midfield by Andy Wallace who with a deft touch redirected the ball into the top left corner. A sublime team goal.
Inverleith produced one clear cut chance in the second half but Matty atoned for his mishap in the second with good reaction save with his right kicker from close range. Fidra then added anther 2 through Gary on the half volley and another for youngster Rowan.
All in all a good team performance ending with Fidra 5-0 winners.
